History

History of East Valley Sand and Gravel

Penny Gutschmidt, owner of Penny Lee Trucking and East Valley Sand and Gravel together with Glenn Rengen, started the business in 1988. Penny started in construction with her father in the speculative home building business at a very early age. After later serving as an apprentice with the Local 302 Operating Engineers and becoming a Journeyman Operator, Penny started her business with Glenn, Penny Lee Trucking.

The business moved to Arlington in 2000, establishing a retail yard as East Valley Sand and Gravel. This facility, along with the trucking company, produces over 35 custom specialized products for home owners or contractors, utilizing 25 years of experience in heavy highway construction. The company also recycles concrete and asphalt and manages a disposal facility.

In 2008, the company lost Glenn. In order to keep his dream alive and continue the service for his employees and customers, Penny Lee Trucking Inc. and East Valley Sand and Gravel Inc. merged together into one company. Glenn’s brother “Vern Rengen” has stepped into Glenn’s shoes to keep the quality of the companies intact and to provide excellent service, as Glenn did.

East Valley Sand and Gravel is the only statewide recognized women-owned certified regular dealer for bidding on federal projects in the state.

With the experience and knowledge, our goal is to offer quality service, with good equipment and a solid base to work from. Since all of our experience came from a company of that nature, we feel it is important to follow those guidelines, and we feel we have.
